"So I poured myself into every book that seemed like it could help me perform better. Books like Atomic Habits by James Clear, The Power of When by Michael Breus, and Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz.
I spent hours reading those books and many others. I watched YouTube for hacks people used to squeeze more out of every day. But it came at a cost. My spirit began to suffer because I was neglecting the words God recorded in Scripture. I was running on fumes instead of drinking the water of life."

This was me from about 2014 until around COVID. I was becoming a new dad, working out, trying this and that fad diet. I breathed in anything Tim Ferriss or Ryan Holiday released. Jordan Peterson, Jocko, all that. And it did have some merit. But ultimately all that stuff had one single message:
Try harder!
And it exhausted me. No matter how many boundaries I set around my time, my mind, my sleep...I never felt rested. My inner drill sergeant never said "good job," or "that was hard, congratulations." I was driven to excel but never felt like I arrived anywhere.
That's a good one. A guy could be a "skinny-fat", "inefficient" and many other ways "unoptimized", and still be an amazing Steward and most highly faithful.
Interesting and good thought experiment and consideration.
Good Word
