The enemy is constantly changing the words they use for the sins they want to keep committing. We must not use these terms, but the Biblical words for the sin the pagans refer to.
I say this, because God is the one that defines what is, and is not, sin. So He alone is to name the sin. As expected, we find the words God uses for sin in the Bible. One such place we see some terminology is in Galatians 5.
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:19-21 KJV)
That’s quite a list. Let’s grab the first sin: adultery. The pagan world around us uses the word “affair” instead to describe having sex with someone other than your spouse.
This word is soft and effeminate. It does not cut to the heart of the flesh like “adultery” does. But adultery goes beyond physical sex with someone other than your spouse. Our Lord Jesus Christ tells us that even looking at a young woman to lust after her is adultery.
Do you watch or look at porn? That’s adultery. We hear so often from the pagans that it’s “natural” but God calls it sin.
Language Leads To Culture
Language produces books, movies, and music.
These media account for much of the culture created by a people. If we, as Christians, are using the pagan’s terminology, we are engaging in their culture and not creating one.
This is not what our King commanded us to do at His great commission. Instead, He tells us to “teach the nations ... to observe all things” He commanded us. By engaging in their culture, we are not influencing them, but being influenced by them.
There is nothing wrong with living among the pagans, but we are not to engage in their culture. Instead, we are to engage in our own Christian culture. That way, the pagans around us see the good fruit of a Christ centered culture.
This will teach them by observation and even direct conversation with those curious enough to step up and ask honest questions.
Where Does Culture Start?
Culture starts with the family.
Each Christian family must center their home around the only true God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
All substitutes for the family will cannot produce stable, godly individuals. Without godly individuals, we can’t produce a Christ centered culture. We see this today because the family unit, as defined by God, is now a minority in the Western world.
As a general rule, only the families that are stable pass on knowledge and wealth. From biblical knowledge comes biblical thinking and reason, which also produces culture by creating books and other media that teach.
Look at pagan academia, it’s creating a culture of science and reason without a god, let alone the one true and holy God.
Since we lack strong biblical family units and have let the enemy damage this family structure, we no longer produce stable individuals and a stable society.
We no longer have a strong Christian culture and this dulls God’s glory to the pagan world. So, of course, we see the rise of pagan and effeminate terminology and a slackness toward sin.
What’s Next?
Start using Bible words for everything.
This will speak to the gravity of sin and the glory of God more clearly than new age speak. Train your children to do the same by speaking to them in Biblical terms instead of the modern effeminate terminology.
We’ll be called many names, but it’s better to be right with God than right with man. Embrace what God defined and support each other as we move through this life, taking back the culture for our King, Jesus Christ.
