Brothers, it’s time to stop making excuses for our own and our brother’s actions. No matter if it’s a valid excuse or not it’s time to own up and stop trying to take the easy way out.
We often make excuses as a way to avoid hostility, lessen the blow of a mistake, or to make ourselves look better. This may be an act of trying to cover our sin.
In a sense, we are saying something akin to, “this thing happened but I’m not in sin here because of xyz”. We are not supposed to cover our sin as Proverbs 28:13 says:
“He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.” - Proverbs 28:13, KJV
We can also look at the Romans 5:3, in which it says:
“And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience” Romans 5:3, KJV
Tribulations here is ofter taken to make persecution due to being a part of the body of Christ. Which I believe is correct but there may also be another perspective of this verse.
The word translated tribulation in this verse can also mean “pressure” in english. When we are confronted for our actions there is an emotional pressure to make an excuse. We then make an excuse to avoid the consequences the best we can.
We should not make an excuse to rid ourselves of such pressure. Instead, take glory in the pressure as it will make us more patient with others and their mistakes.
“For every man shall bear his own burden.” - Galatians 6:5, KJV
Inline with our own attempts to cover our sin with excuses, others do it for us as well. We hear phrases like, “he’s just a man”, “he’s only human”, to excuse away sin and poor action.
We must not say this about ourselves or our brethren. We are more than mere men in Christ Jesus. We sons of the one true God, His priests, spiritual creatures, eternal in Him, and beloved more than angels.
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light” - 1 Peter 2:9 KJV
Brothers, we are children on the one true God. We are fighting a spiritual battle with Christ Jesus our Lord and King. We must accept our failures, confess our sins, and stop making excuses for our actions.
Jesus is Lord. Jesus is King.
All of life for Christ’s crown, covenant, and Kingdom!
