Brothers, sexual lust is sin too common among us. We must fight this dragon and root it out at the source. We ourselves have no power against it, but fortunately for us, our King Jesus Christ has all power and authority over all sin. Including the lust we so often face in our lives.
I had an addiction to porn for close to 20 years and it’s thanks to the power of Christ that I am free from that sin. This post contains what I have learned and some practical steps to help you conquer your sexual sin by the power of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Sexual Lust Is Adultery
Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. (Matthew 5:27-28 KJV)
Christ tells us that even thinking about a woman sexually is adultery and sinful. Christ came to fulfill the Law, not remove it, and here we see Him deepening the meaning of Exodus 20:14.
Thou shalt not commit adultery. (Exodus 20:14 KJV)
God packed old testament with warnings of adultery. Proverbs tells us that anyone who commits adultery lacks understanding and destroys his own soul (Proverbs 6:32).
The prophets in the old testament constantly refer to the backsliding of Israel as committing adultery and tell of the consequences of their adultery.
We also see the same image in the book of Revelation chapter 2, when John writes to the church in Thyatira. There we read of the prophetess Jezebel, how she seduced God’s servants to commit fornication and to eat of things which were sacrificed to idols.
In verse 22, God tells us that anyone who commits adultery with Jezebel will enter great tribulation unless they repent. We must repent of adultery, by the standard of Christ, which is so common among us today. Once we do, we must run from it at all costs.
We Have The Command To Flee Youthful Lusts
Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. (2 Timothy 2:22 KJV)
Paul tells us to run away from the lusts of our youth. Strong’s Concordance shows that this word translated “flee” can metaphorically mean to shun.
We can further see other definitions of the English word to mean to run away “with rapidity”, to “hasten away”, and “to avoid”. (Webster’s 1828)
The Strong’s Concordance has this word defined as a desire for what the forbidden.
Then we can see the Easton’s Bible Dictionary defines it as, “the inward sin which leads to the falling away from God; and Naves Topical Index tells us that lust is an “evil desire”.
When we look in the Webster’s 1828 Dictionary, we lust defined as a “longing desire” and a “carnal appetite”.
But God commands to be spiritually minded because being “carnally minded is death.”
Be Spiritually Minded To Conquer
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, (Galatians 5:19 KJV)
For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. (Romans 8:6-8 KJV)
... Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. (Galatians 5:16-17 KJV)
These three verses capture what it means to be carnally minded as well as spiritually minded.
We have to focus on our spiritual health if we have any change of conquering the sins of the flesh, including sexual lust.
The sinful desires of the flesh add no value to our lives. Watching porn does us no good. Even if in the fleeting moment it seems to relax us, it only causes more stress when we abstain.
It’s time to put to death our sinful sexual desires and grow in the spirit.
How To Put Your Sexual Lust to Death
Read the Bible Daily
Consider this your spiritual food.
Christ is the word incarnate and we must feed upon every word of God to grow in the spirit.
Miss no days and read with attentiveness.
Don’t worry about getting through a certain number of chapters or pages and find the nourishment God provides us through His word.
I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. (John 6:51 KJV)
Pray at Every Temptation
As we talked about above, we must flee the lusts of our flesh.
When we flee, we must flee to God, for only He can change us.
Nothing in our own will power will beat the sin of sexual lust.
If it could, we would not see so many Christian men wrapped up in porn.
Cry out to God when temptation comes!
Pray without ceasing. (1 Thessalonians 5:17 KJV)
Remove Your Triggers
Comb over your feeds and remove any account which posts content which triggers your flesh to lust.
It matters not who it is or what else the account posts. Take it out!
It’s better to lose a friend than to have your soul cast into hell.
... if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not [that] thy whole body should be cast into hell. (Matthew 5:29-30 KJV)
Don’t forget, pray because everything depends on God, but work as if everything depends on you.
